I don’t have a neatly packaged solution to the mess in our modern American church, evangelicalism, or Christian nationalism. All I know is that behavior driven religion is not enough. So I kind of refuse to be an influencer. It’s one of my biggest things. As I hear of social media personalities who weren’t being real (and some who have even gotten arrested recently), I’m even more firm in my beliefs. “This is about more than politics. Politics is the evidence of collapse. The Evangelical Industrial Complex (churches, para churches, media, institutions, etc.) needs an overhaul. Six months ago I didn’t have an Instagram following and then this reel (with different music) went viral and here you all are! 😂👏 You guys, it’s been a week. (And yes, I got caught in the rain.) A LONG week that was also super full and I haven’t had a minute of extra time to create anything. So instead, here’s a little bit about me. In case you were wondering where I got the ideas from my stickers. 😆 Some were from great authors and others were from not as great men. 😬 I’ll be honest, it’s taken a lot of work to rethink my beliefs around emotions and faith. Nopety-NOPE! Been there, done that, not doing it again. Many thanks to @bethallisonbarr and her books for the final push in setting me free. 😁👏 Seriously though—can we get a new timeline?

    More than a Follower

It might just be me, having been raised in legalistic Christianity, but I struggle with the way discipleship is often portrayed. I feel like there is this heavy emphasis on what we are supposed to DO as a disciple even from mainstream pastors and teachers. Follow * Deny Yourself * Take Up Your Cross * Be Like Jesus These statements, or at least the thoughts behind them, ARE in the Bible. And they aren’t wrong. But I think something is missing. Or rather, Someone. There has to be more to being a disciple of Jesus Christ than just action verbs focused on our behavior. There is more! Check out this “Jesus encounter”…

Why I love “The Shack” – A Brief Review

Last Friday night, my husband and I joined a crowd of snuffling, shaking, teary eyed strangers watching The Shack. I  purposefully didn’t wear mascara and brought lots of Kleenex, but halfway through the movie I just gave up and let the tears flow. I’m a crier, and normally I feel a bit self-conscious blubbering in a public theater; but on Friday night, I was just one of the bunch. With my husband silently shaking to my right and an unknown man in his 50’s sobbing to my left, I felt right at home. What I loved about The Shack: I LOVE that God is not in a box. Watching The…

My Best Friend, The Adulterous Woman

She lay there in the dirt, torn from the embrace of her lover, caught in the very act that condemned her. They wanted to stone her. According to the law, they had every right to circle around and hurl small boulders, bruising, crushing, breaking her body, silencing her screams. But they waited to see what he would say, this young rabbi; they challenged his beliefs with her very life. He didn’t say anything, just knelt down next to her and began to write with his finger in the dirt. She saw his hand out of the corner of her eye, felt his presence next to her. He ignored the…

“The Cult Next Door” A Documentary

Does your voice sound strange to you when you hear it on a recording? Tell me I’m not the only one! I always think, “Oh gosh, do I really sound like that?” No one else seems to notice because, yes, I really sound like that and everyone is used to it. It’s even worse to watch myself on tape. Yikes! The first interview was for the Bible school we went to after we got married. We were supposed to answer the questions with scripted answers put into our…

When your Neighbors Pee Outside your Kitchen Window (some thoughts on losing your life)

I should preface this story by telling you that I’m a country girl. I grew up in the country. We didn’t have any neighbors next to us; we had corn fields and fence rows. And, while we did have a neighbor across the street, we were separated by our huge front yard, and the road, and lots of trees, and their front yard, and their trees. You get the idea. Don’t miss another thing! Click here to subscribe to my monthly newsletter. My husband and I moved into our current home in the month of November. It was cold. Everyone in our new small-town-neighborhood was safely inside. I recognized that…
