I used to think my observations were just a conspiracy theory, just the wild imagination of a girl who spent a decade in a cult. But I’m starting to think that Bill Gothard’s teachings have seeped into more of Evangelcial Christianity than anyone wants to admit. And while they seem benign at first glance, they are dark, deceptive, and damaging. It’s time to expose the lies for what they are! Find all of my stickers at my Etsy store: Be Simply You. Everything is restocked and ready to ship. 😁 I kinda love this trend because it gives people a chance to be warned. I’m not really here to create content or be a lifestyle influencer. I’m just here to share thoughts, make people feel seen, and provide a third way. So I’m pretty sure that the founder of YWAM had ties to Bill Gothard’s teachings. And if that is the case, it’s no wonder people have been damaged. 😭 @bbtbpod @johnnaraeharris Part two of my ranty lament about young adults, spiritual abuse, and Christian organizations like YWAM. I’m writing this with a mix of anger and deep sorrow in my heart. Heartache is a good word. It will probably be a bit of a rant, so consider yourself warned. The last twenty-five years have been a wild journey. Grateful for a Living God who showed up when I wasn’t even looking and pulled me out of the lies and twisted truths I was living in. Grateful to be able to share my story and use my experiences to help others. But it’s WILD that my weird story is suddenly so relevant. 😳 How come we have a whole demonic spirit label taken out of context and the guys get nothing? Hmmm??

I found The Rise and Fall of Mars Hill podcast thanks to someone I follow on Instagram. Produced by Christianity Today and hosted by Mike Cosper, the podcast describes the story of the Seattle based megachurch and it’s pastor Mark Driscoll. But even more than that, it digs into the background of Mars Hill and the Christian culture of the last 40-50 years which produced the disaster that followed. They’ve only released the first two episodes, but I’m already hooked. This feels like I’m getting the missing half of the conversation that started with Kristin Kobes Du Mez’ book Jesus and John Wayne. But unlike Du Mez who seemed to…
